Corn and soybean production workshops scheduled

Corn and soybean production workshops will be held at four locations in the University of Wisconsin Extension Central Wisconsin Agriculture Specialization Team area. The dates and locations of the workshops are Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Elizabeth Inn in Plover; Friday, Feb. 12, at the Marshfield Agriculture Research Station; Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the Markesan State Bank; and Wednesday, Feb. 24, in Mauston.

Workshop topics include the latest on precision guidance systems, equipment controllers, yield monitors, their costs and their value to you; equipment modifications to corn planters that have helped enhance crop yield; soybean seed choices, seed treatment options, how do you decide how much to spend on seed and what will have greatest value for you; will corn or soybeans be more profitable in 2010 cost of production estimates; and a marketing outlook and soil factors other than fertility that may be limiting crop yield.

Presenters include Shawn Conley, soybean and wheat Extension specialist; Matt Digman, biological systems engineer; Jim Leverich, UW Extension on-farm research coordinator; Ken Williams, Waushara County agriculture agent; and Donald Genrich, agriculture agent for Adams County.

Certified Crop Advisors can earn three hours of continuing education by attending.

Sessions start with registration at 9:30 a.m. and end by 3 p.m. Lunch will be provided. The registration fee is $20. To register for any site, call Adams County UW Extension at 608-339-4237.
